Lifelong Learning - New Construction of a Sustainable Campus

With LIFE HAMBURG, a future-oriented campus for lifelong learning, intergenerational cooperation and holistic well-being is being created in Hamburg-Bramfeld on an area of around 15,000 square meters, which is in harmony with its surroundings and the environment. The aim is to enable people to develop their individual strengths in order to shape their own and our common future in the best possible way.

LIFE HAMBURG aims to shine as a flagship project from Bramfeld to Hamburg and the world. A balanced approach to nature and technology is also part of the guiding principles, which is why a high degree of CO neutrality is being pursued. The building will be designed with climate protection in mind, featuring:

  • A generously glazed facade to provide extensive natural lighting for the interiors,
  • A highly thermally insulated building envelope,
  • An energy supply via a geothermal heat pump and air/water heat pump,
  • Extensively greened roof areas and gable roofs with photovoltaic panels to generate additional energy required for the building operation
  • Use of grey water for toilet installations
  • Rainwater management systems including outdoor facility planning
  • Development of ‘tangible’ technology concepts for educational purposes and all age groups

The building is primarily planned as a load bearing structure made of sustainable wood. With the exception of the floor slabs and foundations on the ground floor, as well as the cores with the escape staircases and  restrooms, the entire structure will be made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) elements and supports. The LIFE HAMBURG Campus is an initiative of the Holistic Foundation.

The project will be completed by the start of school in 2026.
