The listed town hall of Holzwickede has been transformed into a modern council and citizen's house through renovation and extension. The prominent urban location and the high architectural quality of the award-winning design by Bez + Kock required a careful lighting concept that meets strict energy standards.
The three-story entrance hall (Citizen Forum) serves as the contact point for citizen services, the foyer of the citizens' hall, and a central venue for events and communication. Fourteen skylights allow daylight to enter in a controlled manner. Selected sides of the skylights are designed as trapezoidal light ceiling panels. Integrated light lines accompany the handrails and balustrades of the spacious staircase.
This motif is echoed in the new building corridors as a narrow light strip and is referenced again in the hall through wooden reveals.
In the citizens' hall, basic downlights and decorative glass luminaires, controlled via DALI, create a variety of lighting moods suitable for all kinds of events.
During the renovation of the old building, the lighting was carefully and historically sensitively adapted. Gypsum-mounted lights in wall color, proven concepts of diffuse pendant luminaires, and selected accents with spotlights were reintroduced.
For ecological reasons, facade lighting was omitted. The service areas are illuminated energy-efficiently, and where appropriate, sensor-controlled lighting minimizes electricity consumption.
