The Dresden Heart Centre (HZD) is one of the leading university heart centres in Saxony and offers comprehensive care at the highest level with its specialist clinics for cardiology and heart surgery. As one of Saxony‘s two maximum care centres, the HZD is an indispensable part of the regional healthcare system. In order to meet the constantly growing demands for modern and efficient patient care, the new building for the heart centre is being planned on Blasewitzer Straße / Fetscherstraße.
The new building will have around 18,000 square metres of floor space and will house a total of around 220 beds for intensive and general care as well as additional functional areas. These include a central emergency department, shock rooms, operating theatres, hybrid operating theatres and cardiac catheterisation laboratories. In addition, modern imaging procedures, including MRI, CT and conventional X-ray facilities, will be provided for comprehensive diagnostics. The future building will also include areas for research, teaching and laboratories. The new building is scheduled for completion in 2029.
Particular attention is being paid to the sustainability and energy efficiency of the project: the technical building equipment (TGA) includes the planning and realisation of the heating and cooling supply via innovative heat pump and well systems. In addition, a district heating connection is planned for peak load and redundancy supply with three compression chillers. Building component activation is used to heat and cool the building efficiently.
Ten centralised air conditioning systems with a total air volume of 330,000 m³/h are planned to ensure constant air quality. Furthermore, a MV switchgear system with three transformers of 1250 kVA each will be integrated, together with two emergency power supply systems (1,000 kVA each) and a UPS system to ensure an uninterruptible power supply. In addition, a BSV system will be installed to safeguard the power grid.
In the case of security technology, a fire alarm system, a video surveillance system and a digital locking system will be implemented. A nurse call system is planned for patient communication. The project also includes the installation of modern lifts and a central medical gas supply for the medical equipment.
A photovoltaic system with an output of 250 kWp will be installed to ensure a sustainable energy supply. A fire extinguishing system is also planned for the helipad in order to fulfil the highest safety requirements.
This comprehensive equipment will ensure that the Dresden Heart Centre meets both medical requirements and sustainability standards and can be operated in a sustainable manner.
